Let's talk about change!

We hear a lot of talk, confessions and even manifestations on making changes these days. Everyone recognizes the need for change in at least some aspects of their lives, organization, community or even nation. The question is, where does change start?

The NLP Communication Model explains how we receive, process and store the information we receive. We receive these information through our 5 senses namely Sight, Sound, Touch, Smell and Taste. The information is then processed in our brain and is either deleted, distorted or generalized resulting in a map of behaviors and responses that regulates how we behave and react. In short, we receive information through the conscious mind, and the information is translated into a map for the unconscious mind.

The conscious mind represents 10% of our internal workings and provides conscious control over our willpower, analysis and decision. The unconscious mind represents 90% and regulates beliefs, values, identity, self confidence and many other things based on the map we created above. This functions are on auto pilot and we often do these functions without having to think.
Since our behaviors are regulated by the map that exists in the subconscious mind, it makes sense to change this map to get the changes we want, correct? But, hey! Is it possible to change an unconscious part of ourselves, the side of us that we don't even think about?
Yes! It is definitely possible. Remember, we have conscious control over analysis, willpower and decisions. Once we have analyzed that there is a need for change, make a decision that changes are needed and summon our willpower to make that change, the change process starts.
The next logical step is to practice the new behaviors we have determined consciously over and over again until it becomes the new map in the unconscious mind. Akin to learning how to drive a car, we first consciously go through every step from making sure the gears are in neutral, inserting the key, wearing a seat belt and depressing the clutch pedal before starting the car. After a few years of driving, these actions become automatic. They were carried out subconsciously.
Change is possible. Change is inevitable. The next question is, how do we trigger change? We'll discuss this in the near future. Keep coming back for more.
Make it a point to have a great day!
